Fuel Quality

Diesel Now's expertise in identifying the problems of contaminated fuel and how our Systems & Services can protect against them.

DIESEL NOW ADOPTS A "FOUR STEP" APPROACH TO MAINTAINING STORED DIESEL FUEL

1. Determine the type and amount of contamination that is present in your Diesel Fuel. We can collect accurate samples from the very bottom of your Bulk Tank (10mm off bottom) that can be visually assessed or sent to an independent analytical laboratory for analyses.

2. Remove and dispose of the bulk contaminants, including condensed water; settled sludge; biological gels and growth; rust; silt, etc.

3. Filter (Polish) the diesel fuel to remove very fine particles and water until it is of optimum quality - clear, clean and safe to use.

4. Maintain the optimum quality by gently recycling the diesel fuel, on a regular basis, with an automatic, programmable system with sensors and alarms that alert you to any aspect that may need attention.

IMPORTANT FACTS ABOUT DIESEL FUEL CONTAMINATION

• Diesel Fuels are no longer stable!

• Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel (ULSD) has less than 10 ppm of Sulphur. This results in a cleaner air and environment, but reduces the stability of Diesel.

• ULS Diesel Fuels will start to deteriorate if stored for more than one month.

• The deterioration of Diesel Fuel is known as Accelerated Ageing.

• Accelerated Ageing first starts to occur at the Water/Diesel interface near the very bottom of a tank.

• All Diesel Tanks are vented to atmosphere and as such condensation develops and settles to the bottom of the tank.

• Contamination, if not constantly removed, can cause major and expensive problems - even disasters.

CONSEQUENCES OF DIESEL FUEL CONTAMINATION

• Emergency Power Generators must be supplied with clean, dry diesel fuel in order to provide the required back up power supply when needed.

• Maintenance personnel and Management must know for certain that their diesel is ready to go in case of any emergency.

• Failure of a Generator to start (and continue to run) can result in catastrophic losses and possibly deaths.

• All Mission Critical facilities are dependent on the operability and reliability of their emergency power system (EPS) for safety, security and uninterrupted operation.

• Mission Critical Facilities include; Hospitals, Data Processing Centres, Prisons, Banks, Defence, Utilities, Mining Sites and more
